Irish Set Dancing Series Starts January 12th, 2009

Julie Buzzell will start a new series of Irish SET Dancing on Monday, January 12, 2009. Class will take place each Monday from 7 - 8:30 PM for a five week series excluding Monday Jan 19th (MLK day). It will end on a TBA date with a real live "Ceili" right here in Pegram at the Fiddle and Pick! At the "Ceili" we have a live Irish band, complimentary goodies and soft drinks, and even Guiness to add the authenticity. Spectators are always welcome to watch the Mon. eve activity and encouraged to come especially at the "Ceili night" which is the end of a six week series.

Experience the fun and excitement of Ireland’s wildly popular social dance. First performed in rural Ireland over 150 years ago, Irish sets are figures danced by four couples in a square, similar to American square dance. It goes without saying that we dance to lively traditional Irish music!

All ages are welcome. Bring a partner or come solo. You don’t need any dance experience. Wear comfortable clothes and smooth-soled shoes. This just might be the most fun you have ever had on a dance floor!

Julie Buzzell is FIDDLE & PICK’s Irish Set Dance instructor. Julie has also taught clogging, square dance, ballet, and creative movement. She danced and choreographed for the Nashville Rhythm Cloggers for ten years. Julie fell in love with set dancing in 2005 when she studied with Pat Murphy at the Joe Mooney Summer School in Drumshanbo, County Leitrim, Ireland.

COST: $50 for six classes
$10 for one class

Newcomers are always welcome, but we encourage participants to sign up for the full session because each class will build on the figures learned in previous weeks.
To register or for more info, call
Julie Buzzell at (615) 364-9593.

Nancy Conescu, the incredible DADGAD guitarist who taught at the Trad. Music Day Camp, will be at the advanced Irish session Monday night, January 26th, 2009. If you took a class with her, you know how wonderfully organic her playing is. Chord substitutions, moving lines, passing chords, and a fine understanding of the music lead to a magical touch. I have to admit that I get a bit mesmerized by her playing. 'tis grand!

We are lucky to have her sit in with us, so please come out and see how it is done. Whether you are spectator or player, please review http://pweb.jps.net/~jgilder/seisiun.html before coming out. We want to show our guest the usual courtesy.

Irish Set Dancing with Julie Buzzell will be the great hall this Monday: see http://fiddleandpick.ning.com/profiles/blogs/irish-set-dancing-series

If we are not in the great hall, we may be in the "Rowdy Room" in the back. If you don't see us, either walk *quietly* through the great hall (past the bathrooms and keep going) or walk/drive around to the back. There is a door and windows, so you can see us/come in from the back.

(reminder: "The Secret Commonwealth" will be at the French Quarter Cafe', Jan 29th, 7PM-8PM)
