About Me:
I was born in Pittsburgh, PA and have been playing music for the last 21 years. I began playing Irish traditional fiddle in college and have largely focused on the genre and instrument ever since. I recently completed a doctorate in history at Loyola University Chicago, at which I wrote my dissertation, "'Auld Sod' and New Turf: Entertainment, Nationalism, and Identity in the Irish Traditional Music Community of Chicago, 1868-1999." Having performed in Pittsburgh, Ohio, Chicago, and Dublin, I am interested to see what the Nashville area has to offer. So far I have greatly enjoyed the sessions at the Fiddle and Pick.

Conjecture vs. Evidence: “Celtic” Music, Ulster Scots, and the Myth of Irish Traditional Music’s Role in the Genesis of American Old Time Country

As the Greek philosopher Socrates stated, “The only true wisdom is in knowing you no nothing.” Or did he? First, the Athenian philosopher Socrates, condemned to death in 399 BCE, might or might not have existed. Socrates could have been an invention of the philosopher who supposedly transcribed his Dialogues, Plato. Secondly, nowhere in the Dialogues do the exact words regarding wisdom appear. Plato’s work contains a discussion pertaining to wisdom, and Socrates muses that one of t… Continue

Most of us play our accoustic guitars at the jam sessions here. But I was just wondering how many of you also own and play electric guitars. What kind? And what amp do you have? Tell us about it. As for me, I have a 1979 Gibson ES-175D, an arche...
